🏭 Nvidia invests $5B in Intel, turning its rival into a partner. The chip giant is acquiring a 4% stake in Intel after the US government already took a 10% stake through a $9B equity conversion. Just another case of "too big to fail"...

🗃️ Robinhood plans to launch a startups fund open to all retail investors. Robinhood has filed with the SEC to create “Ventures Fund I,” a publicly traded vehicle intended to give the average investor the opportunity to invest in startups before they go public. Seems like a good idea, but there's a reason why this type of investment has traditionally only been available to private equity and high net-worth individuals (read: high risk).

⚡️ Electricity inflation hits its highest level in two years as the AI boom rumbles on. Our AI overlords are promising us that LLMs will boost productivity and make our lives better, but they're not being fully transparent about the costs (higher energy demand and water usage).

📉 Rich Americans’ confidence slips. Sentiment among high-income Americans declined sharply recently. We're not currently in a recession, but it wouldn't take much for us to get there. The top 10% of earners account for 49% of all spending in this country, and 70% of the US GDP is consumer spending. So if the top earners decide to dial back their spending, we're in for a bumpy ride.

✂️ The FOMC announced its decision to slash rates by a quarter-point to a range of 4.00% to 4.25%. It's official. The Fed funds rate was cut by 25 basis points and two more cuts are expected by the end of the year. Someone needs to keep an eye on Stephen Miran though...he was the only guy who voted for a 50 basis point cut right out of the gate.
